We’re busy – maybe busier than we’ve ever been before. And for that, we’re grateful to our staff, partners, clients and community. From big projects to small jobs and everything in between, Dow Smith Company’s leaders and employees are hard at work every day, helping existing organizations evolve and new ones spring to life.
Here are some of the things we have been working on:
Greenhouse Ministries
In November, Greenhouse Ministries broke ground on a new 25,000-square-foot facility across the street from its current building on Spring Street in downtown Murfreesboro. A treasure in our community, this nonprofit organization seeks to transform those they serve and those who serve with them by focusing on spiritual, financial, physical, and emotional progress. Greenhouse Ministries offers food and clothing as well as educational resources, health services, counseling and career preparation.

The new two-story facility, which is set to open by the end of the year, will provide Greenhouse Ministries with even more space to, as they say, “serve the whole person.” They’ll be able to expand social work and counseling services, have better space for occupational therapists and even have 17 apartments for underhoused men who will enter a mentoring program. The facility will also five classrooms and substantial office space.
“It’s just a true pleasure to be able to partner with Greenhouse Ministries on this,” says Bryan Jaynes, Director of Construction Services for Dow Smith Company. “It aligns so well with the heart of our company. We so believe in what they’re doing. We’re mindful of every dollar spent, every design, every detail. We know how much of an impact this ministry has on the community.”
Mulch N More
Queen’s Tree Surgery has been serving Middle Tennessee for nearly 80 years. The company, which was started by Wayne Queen in 1942, is very much a family business. Wayne’s son, Eddy, now runs the business and all three of Eddy’s sons work there. Queen’s Tree Surgery offers land clearing, steep topography clearing, right-of-way clearing and specialized tree removal.

One of the most common questions the Queen family gets is, “What do y’all do with the chipped wood?” The short answer is: They make mulch out of it. And that’s where Mulch N More comes in.
Dow Smith Company is working with Queen’s Tree Surgery to create a home for Mulch N More off of Burnt Knob in Murfreesboro. The Queen family purchased 100 acres across the street from Rogers Group. The property will include an office space, a 25,000-square-foot pole barn and a detention pond.
Puckett Creek Station
We’re also working on Puckett Creek Station, a 6,000-square-foot wood-framed structure located at 4005 Cedar Glades Drive in Murfreesboro. It is designed for two future tenant spaces. We’ve been hard at work on this building since May and plan to have it finished in the fall. Aaron Fisher is the project manager and Josh Beasley is the project superintendent.

Premier Martial Arts
In business for more than 20 years, Premier Martial Arts offers classes for adults and children. The company has more than 100 locations across the United States, Canada and England.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Premier Martial Arts in Murfreesboro, TN after the tenant improvement project was completed.
Dow Smith Company was hired for a small tenant improvement project for Premier Martial Arts’ new location at 4183 Franklin Road in Murfreesboro. We painted, cleaned, hung pictures and mirrors. It was a pleasure to be a part of welcoming this company to our community.
MMC Mammogram Suite
We love working with Murfreesboro Medical Clinic. Our President and Owner Dow Smith has called MMC our “biggest and best client.” In a relationship that spans well over a decade, we have done a variety of projects for MMC, including its new building on Shelbyville Pike, which houses Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Internal and Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Lab Services and Radiology Services. The relationship with MMC began when they needed a walk-in clinic inside the Kroger on Lascassas Pike in Murfreesboro. It was a build-out in a small space. In 2019, Dow Smith Company did a complete tenant build-out for MMC’s two-story, 17,000-square-foot space at The Fountains.
This year, Dow Smith Company has been working with MMC to take some space within its radiology unit and create an additional mammogram suite. We combined office space and storage space to create larger office space, adding lead shielding on a couple of walls. We also added new flooring and new paint as well as a hefty bit of electrical. We also worked with their vendor to make sure the suite had the proper power requirements for their new mammogram machine.
The project wrapped up in early June and we can’t wait to work with MMC again.
Seven Oaks and Howard Printing
We’re working with John Blankenship on Building G at Seven Oaks Business Park in Smyrna – and it already has one tenant lined up.
The new Building G at Seven Oaks Business Park in Smyrna will soon be home to Howard Printing and other local businesses.
Building G will be a 14,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building that will provide more flexibility with tenant improvement. It has six occupant spaces, and Howard Printing has already committed to occupying two of the spaces.
For Howard Printing, we’ll do a full build-out, installing walls, separate bathrooms, labs and offices.
First Presbyterian Church
Dow Smith Company builds new churches. We also like renovating old ones. First Presbyterian Church is about as historic as it gets in Murfreesboro. The congregation dates back to 1812 and its current building, which was built a century later, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
We’re helping update the church with four bathroom remodels—two upstairs and two downstairs. When we’re finished, they’ll have new flooring, solid surface counter tops, ceramic tile and paint. The sanctuary will get some new paint and the gym will get new halogen lights.
We’re also going to make sure the church’s annual chili cook-off goes off without a bang. Every year, the electrical circuits pop when lots of crockpots are plugged in. Updating the electrical circuits will ensure this doesn’t happen again. We hope they’ll save us a bowl.
