Fountains at Gateway, a vibrant 31-acre corporate office campus and retail center located in Murfreesboro, is home to Murfreesboro Medical Clinic’s newest facility—a growing medical spa, dermatology and plastic surgery practice. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Albert Kattine and board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brad Medling now provide a high level of service and amenities to patients throughout Middle Tennessee. The brand, new 17,000-square-foot space includes 6,000 square feet on the first floor and 11,000-square feet on the second floor.
Dow Smith Company worked with MMC’s designers to provide the high-end interior build-out of this Class A space. The interior build-out included multiple lobbies for Dr. Kattine and Dr. Medling, treatment rooms, exam rooms, a relaxation room, nurses stations, meeting rooms, a break room, and a boutique retail space.
We have a long history of working with MMC. Back in 2008, MMC originally contracted us to build the first MMC Family Walk-In Clinic on Lascassas Pike, followed by the second clinic in 2010 on New Salem Highway. Over the years, we have built new facilities, performed renovations and built-out interior spaces for a variety of MMC’s needs.
In addition to the build-out at The Fountains, our team is currently constructing a new stand-alone satellite campus on South Church Street, just south of the Walmart Supercenter. The 30,000-square-foot building is slated to open in the Fall of 2019 and will house multiple practices, with a focus on family care and pediatrics. It will also be home to various specialty healthcare departments including gastroenterology, dermatology and spine/joint/pain management. There will be an adult walk-in clinic and the building will have about 4,500 square feet slated for future expansion.
The build-out at The Fountains was extremely challenging. To begin with, the project went through several rounds of value engineering to come up with a plan that was not only financially viable, but could be completed within schedule. Our team, led by Project Manager Joey Rhyne, worked diligently with MMC and their architect to fine tune the plans to make the project feasible.
“One of our strengths is value engineering—finding ways to re-engineer the project to meet the budget without sacrificing the needs of the client. We found ways to save money on lighting, HVAC packages and interior finishes,” says Rhyne. “We were able to give MMC the best bang for their buck while meeting the standards of the Class A office/retail space at The Fountains.
One of the most interesting features of this project is the U Medi Spa, the only dermatologist-owned and operated spa in Murfreesboro. The spa specializes in medically supervised, state-of-the-art skin rejuvenation procedures and spa services, such as facials, massages, manicures, laser hair removal, Coolsculpting and wrinkle reduction treatments. The retail boutique offers gifts as well as a full line of skin care products and high quality fashions. The space required a light and airy open feeling that projects tranquility and calmness. A special stone wall feature and other high-end touches make this medical practice feel more like an oasis than a doctor’s office.
As MMC celebrates its 70th anniversary, it is well on the path to expand its services to the growing population of Rutherford County. And, the Dow Smith Team is blessed to be part of the journey to help MMC achieve its goals.
