Shauna McConnell, Partner & Director of Accounting
Dow Smith Company is pleased to announce that Shauna McConnell has been promoted to Partner & Director of Accounting after seven years at Dow Smith Company (DSC). Shauna joined the DSC team in March 2012 after leaving a commercial construction firm in Nashville. Shortly after her step-father passed away, Shauna was introduced to DSC Partner and Senior Project Manager Joey Rhyne through a family connection. When there was an opening at the DSC office for an administrative manager and controller, Joey reached out to Shauna as he felt she was a great fit for the position. Not only was the job closer to home for Shauna, but she felt a strong connection to the DSC team since their first meeting.
“I met with them and felt very comfortable with them. I wasn’t actively looking for a new job, but I wasn’t 100% happy at my current job,” says Shauna. “It turned out to be an opportunity to be closer to home, as I was driving an hour each way into Nashville.”
Shauna has handled all aspects of DSC’s financials, administrative tasks, and human resources during her tenure. And, while her daily tasks remain much the same since her promotion, the new position means she has a vested interest in DSC’s success and it brings her a great sense of pride.
““I’ve always taken pride in the work I do,” says Shauna. “I want to do the best job for everyone I work for, but especially for a company that cares about you as more than just an employee. I’m new to the partner role, but I hope to continue to learn and grow in my leadership role.””
Shauna has worked in the construction industry for more than 20 years and has experienced the way some women are treated in this male-dominated industry. She has found it disheartening to see a lack of women in construction, but is excited about the future as more female leaders step into roles typically held by men. Shauna is thankful to Dow Smith and Joey Rhyne for the opportunity to step into the Partner position at DSC.
The entire DSC Team is so dependent upon Shauna and so are our employees, vendors, subcontractors, and clients. We made the decision to promote Shauna to partner for many reasons, and we are so blessed to have her on our team.
